Title: Dreamers and Schemers:
Developing the Land of the Lakes
The Shaw Historical
Library has published The Journal of the Shaw Historical Library since
1987. The 2007 monograph issue will focus on land
use and development in the Land
of Lakes area (southern Oregon, northern California
and northwestern Nevada).
The Shaw Historical Library is soliciting one-page
proposals for papers to be included in this issue of the Journal.
Possible topics
include, but are not limited to:
- The
context, significance and legacy of land
development choices in the West and the Land of the Lakes
- Views
of land development through various sources, such as local newspapers,
oral histories, travel guides, diaries, cadastral survey notes and
other documents
- Winners
and losers in land development
- Changing
perceptions and values related to land development in the Land of the
Lakes
- Guides
or descriptions of vanished communities in the Land of the Lakes
- Surveying
in the Land of the Lakes
- Land
development promotion and its results in the Land of the Lakes
Articles, historical
documents, and photographs are welcome submissions.

Last date to submit completed manuscript
