Book Collections
The Shaw Historical Library Book Collection includes approximately 3,000 volumes which can be accessed via the OIT Library Online Catalog>.
The Book Collections contain materials relating to:
- The American western migration:
- The pioneer's trails, their published diaries
- The Indian cultures that preceded them in the West
- The human activities in this area for the last 200 years
- The timber and lumber industries, railroads, and agriculture in the Klamath Basin.
- The Modoc War of 1872-1873.
- There are numerous pioneer diaries including:
- Covered Wagon Women: Diaries and Letters from the Western Trails
- Fremont and Applegate diaries and narratives on their early explorations into the region.
- Another unusual, though not unique, collection is the 129 volume of the War of the Rebellion: Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies and accompanying maps.
- Library users can also find information on:
- The Klamath Tribes, including M.A.R. Barker's three volumes on the Klamath language and texts
- Gatschet's two volumes on the Klamath culture and language published in 1890
- The government documents on the Klamath Tribe Termination of Federal Supervision act
